What is Family Mediation in Bristol?

At Solent Family Mediation Bristol, a qualified impartial mediator assists you in reaching agreements with another party (e.g., an ex-spouse) over children, finances, or property.

The mediator is there to assist you in resolving your differences and identifying mutually beneficial solutions, as well as to explain how to make your agreement legally enforceable if you so want.

Unless you are exempt, you must attend a Mediation Information and Assessment Meeting (also known as an MIAM) prior to filing an application for a court order in respect to certain forms of family law issues.

The family mediation voucher system is a  programme intended to assist parties who may be able to settle their family law problems outside of court. In response to Covid-19, the government has established the initiative to assist recovery in the family court and to encourage more individuals to pursue mediation as a method of settling their conflicts, when appropriate. If appropriate, a payment of up to £500 will be made towards the expenses of mediation to assist this objective.

Only mediators licenced by the Family Mediation Council (FMC) are permitted to participate in the voucher programme.
