This method is particularly beneficial when direct interactions are not feasible due to high emotions, power imbalances, or a history of hostility or abuse. The mediator “shuttles” between the parties, conveying messages, proposals, and counter proposals to help them reach an agreement.

will you need a miam?

If you are considering legal proceedings for issues such as child arrangements you will likely need a Mediation Information and Assessment Meeting (MIAM). A MIAM is a valuable tool that provides an opportunity to explore mediation as an effective way to resolve disputes without going to court. It is often the best way to address misunderstandings and find a mutually acceptable resolution. Mediators assess if mediation is suitable for your situation. The Family Mediation Voucher Scheme can help cover the costs, making it a good option for many families

how long will it take?

The duration of family mediation depends on the complexity of the issues and the willingness of both parties to reach an agreement. Typically, mediation sessions last about 1 to 2 hours, and most cases are resolved within 3 to 5 sessions. Shuttle mediation, where parties are in different rooms, may take slightly longer due to the mediator acting as a messenger. However, this unique approach can be more effective for those who find direct interaction challenging. Our goal is to provide a supportive environment that facilitates a mutually acceptable solution.
