What is an urgent MIAM?

An urgent MIAM is a fast-tracked Mediation Information and Assessment Meeting for situations where you need prompt guidance before taking the next step.

Urgent family mediation support

Find a quicker route through urgent family disputes.

Family disputes can become stressful quickly, especially when children arrangements, finances or court applications are involved. A MIAM gives you a structured first meeting with a mediator so you can understand whether mediation is suitable and what options may be available.

An urgent MIAM may be needed where you are considering a C100 application for child arrangements, a Form A for financial matters, or where you need to understand the mediation requirement before taking court-related steps.

When you may need one

An urgent MIAM may help where timing matters.

Child arrangements

Where you need to understand your options around parenting time, contact, handovers, or a possible C100 application.

Financial matters

Where you need to discuss separation finances, property, disclosure, or a possible Form A application.

Court forms

Where a mediator needs to assess whether mediation is suitable and whether a court form can be signed where appropriate.

How it works

The urgent MIAM process.

1. Book your appointment

Contact Solent Family Mediation to request an urgent MIAM appointment and explain the issue that needs prompt attention.

2. Attend the MIAM

Your mediator will discuss your situation, explain the mediation process and assess whether mediation is suitable.

3. Court forms where appropriate

Where appropriate, the mediator can sign the relevant mediation section for a C100 or Form A so you or your solicitor can take the next step.

What if my ex will not participate?

The other person will usually be invited to consider mediation where suitable. If they are unwilling to participate, or there are reasons why they should not be invited, the mediator can record the relevant information and explain the next steps.

Timely

An urgent MIAM helps you address pressing family issues quickly and understand what options may be available before matters escalate further.

Avoid delays

If you need to apply to court while still considering mediation, an urgent MIAM can help you understand the process and obtain the relevant mediation documentation where appropriate.

Confidential

Mediation is generally confidential, subject to important exceptions such as safeguarding, risk of harm, financial disclosure and legal obligations.

Urgent MIAM questions

How quickly can I arrange an urgent MIAM?

Urgent appointments may be available quickly depending on mediator availability. Contact the team to explain your situation and ask about the earliest available appointment.

Can the MIAM be online?

Yes, online MIAM appointments may be available where suitable. This can make it easier to attend promptly without needing to travel.

Will the other party be contacted?

The other party will usually be invited to mediation where appropriate. If there are exceptional reasons why this should not happen, explain this to the mediator during your appointment.

Can I apply to court while attempting mediation?

In some cases, a MIAM can help you understand whether mediation is suitable and whether you can proceed with a court application where appropriate. The mediator can explain the process and the relevant form requirements.
