In family mediation, a qualified impartial mediator assists you in reaching agreements with another party (e.g., an ex-spouse) over children, finances, or property.

Unless you are exempt, you must attend a Mediation Information and Assessment Meeting (also known as an MIAM) prior to filing an application for a court order in respect to certain forms of family law issues, unless you are exempt.
The family mediation voucher system is a limited-duration programme intended to assist parties who may be able to settle their family law problems outside of court. In response to Covid-19, the government has established the initiative to assist recovery in the family court and to encourage more individuals to pursue mediation as a method of settling their conflicts, when appropriate. If appropriate, a payment of up to £500 will be made towards the expenses of mediation to assist this objective.
Only mediators licenced by the Family Mediation Council (FMC) are permitted to participate in the voucher programme.
