Surrey family mediation service

We all need love in our lives and most people are lucky enough to find it. However, relationships can and do break down, for many reasons. A family breakdown is one of the most challenging and stressful times in anyone’s life. It might feel like there is no hope and the only answer is to separate. But separation can have serious consequences, especially if you have children. So what is the best thing to do?

That is where professional mediation comes in. Its goal is to help couples to communicate properly and come to a united decision together – whether this is to stay together and resolve their differences, or part on good terms and in a way that does not harm any children. Mediation is for all kinds of couples: married, in a civil partnership or cohabiting, straight or gay, young or older, from all ethnicities and backgrounds.

The Surrey Family Mediation Service is the only not-for-profit family mediation service in Surrey. We are also one of the longest-established and most highly regarded mediation providers in the county, with over 30 years’ experience. Our dedicated and experienced staff will take you and your partner through all the steps necessary to help you to decide the way forward, and we’ll do this in the most relaxed and stress-free way possible.

As well as helping you and your partner to talk constructively, we can advise you on practical issues to do with the joint property, finance, and children. We offer impartial, confidential and practical advice and are never judgmental. We will help you to find fair and reasonable solutions without the need to spend huge amounts of money on legal fees or court costs. As the National Audit Office said in its 2007 report, “Family disputes that are resolved through mediation are cheaper, quicker and according to academic research, less acrimonious than those that are settled through the courts.”

Our specific programs include Family Mediation, Child Consultation (finding out in a sensitive way what the children want to happen), and the Separated Parent Information Programme – a course focused on the needs of children whose parents have separated. We are also able to refer you to specialist Child Counsellors and Child Contact Centres. We ourselves provide a friendly, comfortable and safe space where parents and other family members can enjoy time with their children.

All members of staff at the Surrey Family Mediation Service are trained to the highest standard and professionally accredited. Mediation is provided on a one-to-one basis at seven venues across Surrey, including our main office in Unit A, Aviary Court, 138 Miles Road near the center of Epsom. Offices are open 9.00am – 5.00pm, Monday to Friday. Eight sessions are provided free of charge. We can also offer bereavement counseling to young people aged between 5 and 13 years.

Don’t let family breakdown ruin the future for you and your children. Let the Surrey Family Mediation Service help you to find a solution!
